What is anxiety anyway?

Anxiety is a term that gets tossed around a lot in today’s world. In general, anxiety is an experience of worry, nervousness, or overall unease tied to the unknown or any potential event with an uncertain outcome. For some, this manifests as anxiety around social situations. For others, the anxiety is around daily life tasks and events. For still others, relationships cause a flurry of anxiety that impacts your everyday life.

We live in a fast-paced world that encourages anxiety. It makes so much sense that so many of us experience anxious thoughts and feelings. We get it, and we work with clients like you. We offer therapy for anxiety in Ottawa West and online.

What does working on your anxiety look like?

We believe in working with anxiety by helping you connect more deeply with your emotional world—not just your thoughts. While anxious thoughts often get the spotlight, anxiety is also a felt experience in the body. Therapy can help you tune into those emotions with curiosity and compassion, rather than judgment or avoidance.

Rather than trying to “think your way out” of anxiety, we often guide our clients to gently explore what your anxiety is trying to say. Is it protecting you from something? Is it trying to keep you safe from past hurt or disappointment? Anxiety often shows up when deeper emotional needs—like the need for safety, connection, or acceptance—aren’t being fully met.
