- Feeling restless and unable to settle
- Planning for every possible outcome
- Feeling “stuck in your head” and unable to get out of your thought patterns
How anxiety works
What is anxiety anyway?
Anxiety is a term that gets tossed around a lot in today’s world. In general, anxiety is an experience of worry, nervousness, or overall unease tied to the unknown or any potential event with an uncertain outcome. For some, this manifests as anxiety around social situations. For others, the anxiety is around daily life tasks and events. For still others, relationships cause a flurry of anxiety that impacts your everyday life.
We live in a fast-paced world that encourages anxiety. It makes so much sense that so many of us experience anxious thoughts and feelings. We get it, and we work with clients like you. We offer therapy for anxiety in Ottawa West and online.
Working with Anxiety
Anxiety therapy at Levity
We’re trained as therapists to tailor our treatment to your unique needs. This means we can’t give one solid “This is how we work with anxiety all the time always” claim here. We can tell you that we most often work with anxious thoughts and feelings in these ways:
- We’ll discuss what you’re experiencing and give you information that helps you understand your experience better
- We’ll work on how you relate to your anxious thoughts (e.g., in what ways are these thoughts trying to help? Can we soothe them and keep moving with our day? Or maybe give them a high five to thank them and invite them to join us as you go to work or your kids’ soccer game?)
- We’ll have you noticing when your anxious thoughts come up most and what you can do for yourself in those moments (e.g., soothing ourselves, being kinder to ourselves, finding humour in our anxious minds)
- We will be there with you as you feel your anxiety. We’ll encourage you to be with yourself as you feel your anxiety – rather than trying to run away from it.
