What Does Depression Feel Like?
If you’re reading this, you might be like “Oh I do not need a definition of depression – I know what it feels like.” We get that. Depression isn’t just about “feeling sad.” It’s the heavy fog that clouds your mornings, the emptiness that lingers even when things seem “fine,” and the inner critic that won’t stop whispering that you’re not enough. It is exhausting and soul-crushing.
For most, depression also affects relationships—with partners, friends, family, and most importantly, the relationship you have with yourself. You might find yourself withdrawing, losing interest in connection, or struggling to express what you really need. Depression can leave you feeling disconnected not just from the world, but from who you used to be.
